Nobody chooses to watch your video. People scroll, and your video interrupts that. You have less than a second before the thumb moves on. What happens in that second decides everything that follows.
What a strong first second does
Platforms show your video to a small group first. If they keep watching, the video gets a bigger group. If they drop off, it ends there. So the first second is not a detail. It is the gate every view has to pass through.
If they don't stay, they scroll.
Three things we always do
- Start in the middle of the action. No logo, no intro, no good morning. Your first frames should be the most interesting thing you have.
- Put movement on screen. A hand pouring coffee beats a static cup. Eyes follow motion.
- Add text on screen. Many people watch without sound. One short line gives them a reason to stay.
This sounds simple and it is. But simple is not easy. We have done this more than 1100 times and the first second is still what we think about longest. Watch your latest video today and ask what happens in second one. If the answer is your logo, you know where to start.
